As the dust settles on the 35-3 season, where Duke fell just short of a Final Four in an unfortunate turn of events against UConn, it becomes apparent that we have seen the last of some beloved Blue Devils.I was in Cameron the night Maliq Brown was shredding the Duke team in the Blue Devils ' close win over Syracuse. A year later, the guy who grew up a Duke fan was on the team.In Maliq Brown, Duke had its most versatile defender. He could guard pretty much every position on the court and shut down some guys.It felt like a luxury to have his length and intense swatting at any ball ready to be unleashed in each game. Brown was a stopper, a hustler, and a guy willing to do the dirty work while offering spells to the bigs or guard the other teams' best wing.Brown was quite the tool in the shed, and Duke fans will miss his presence, as will the team. Having his skill set at the ready felt like a cheat code at times, as he could muck it up defensively for opponents.I am not exactly sure of Brown's plans just yet, but he can play a similar role as a defensive stopper at the next level.Knowing he is a freshwater fisherman, I'd like to think of him sitting somewhere with a cool breeze on a sunny day, reflecting on the 70 wins he has been a part of the last two seasons, realizing he will be fondly remembered in Durham as a part of the Brotherhood.
