As a flagship model for Toyota in North America, the Highlander is undergoing a generational change. But this time, it’s different: it has become a fully electric vehicle, named the “2027 Highlander.” The gasoline SUV market will officially be handed over to the Crown Signia and the Grand Highlander.
The all-new Highlander is a six-seat pure electric SUV developed specifically for the North American market. Previously known as Toyota’s bZ midsize-to-large electric concept, it signals a major shift in Toyota’s new energy strategy. Rather than launching entirely new models under the bZ series like the bZ4X, Toyota is electrifying its existing gasoline models.
The new Highlander is equipped with the latest battery technology from Toyota’s North American battery plant, offering two battery capacities: 77 kWh and 95.8 kWh. Maximum range reaches 515 km. It is Toyota’s first fully electric three-row SUV, available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. Inside, it features a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14-inch central touchscreen, along with Toyota’s latest Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0) Level 2 driver-assistance system.
