But there's a catch: the numbers don’t add up. Puerto Rico sits more than 800 km from Venezuela’s coastline. The Russian-made S-300 systems Caracas relies on have a maximum advertised detection range of roughly 300~400 km for conventional aircraft, and are considered largely ineffective against stealth fighters like the F-35. Venezuela also lacks airborne early warning aircraft (AWACS), which would be required to extend radar coverage beyond that limit. In short, without AWACS support, Venezuela’s claim to have tracked stealth fighters more than double its systems’ range doesn't seem credible.
